My most recent acquisition was an Ibanez GWB205 Gary Willis signature bass. It’s my first 5 string and my first fretless, and although I’ve had it for 6 months now, that low B string still confuses me sometimes, but it is so worth it. It has become my go-to bass. The neck is so comfortable. It has only one pick up, but the position of the pick up is ideal for tone, and it has active EQ with a bass and a treble control, and the EQ variation is huge. There are 3 models of this bass, and mine is the mid priced one and cost me $1500 US dollars. So if I chose one of your top 5, I would take the Ibanez, even though I also have a Sire Marcus Miller P10 and a Fender USA made Standard Jazz. Ibanez necks are amazing. Thanks for your videos Julia.

I like that satin blue bass. It's the best looking 'unique' shaped guitar I've seen in a while. Yesterday, I just got an Ibanez SR300 weathered black. I'm learning bass on this guitar and I really like it a lot. The body is thin and smooth and the weight is light. Good features for a beginners active bass. Thanks for a great channel.

  • @thebigempty_5792

I just landed this same Fender P bass Player + (same color) as a scratch and dent special at my local Guitar Center and I can say I'm pretty impressed. I swapped out to DR Hi Beams strings and farted around with the action and got it just right. I also have a Ernie Ball MM Stingray Special 5H roasted neck and this P Bass can get really close to the punch and growl of my Stingray. I also really like that you can tone it down and get the vintage tone. For what I paid, it's a great bass and very fun to play. My only gripe is there is a little slop in the g string tuner and that "feel" makes it feel cheap, but it's only when changing the string.

This past October, bought a sunburst Fender Deluxe Active Precision Bass Special. The versatility in having Active and Passive bass sounds so ideal for me. For Rock, the P neck pickup fantastic, and for R&B songs the noiseless pickup on the bridge smooth and silky. Love it. All other combo sounds great too. For my second ever purchase of bass (been a long time guitar player), all on Julia's list seem quality recommendations. Luv this RUclipsr. Keep safe all. Peace.

Can i ask a simple question : is the noise we're hearing from the playing is from the lavalier mic picking up strings noise or the pick up's sound ? I hate that and want to be sure it's not actually the pick ups ..... Please next time be sure to mute the lavalier if it's the culprit( witch i think) .
    Great video as usual .

I recently bought the Fender Player Plus Precision Bass in Cosmic Jade in April 2022. The finish is beautiful which has the ability to glow in low light like the Diamond Anniversary color. I only have two minor problems with the bass. First. I don’t personally care for the flatter 12 inch radius ( all my others are 9.5) fingerboard which I had changed out for a 9.5 roasted maple neck. Love it now. Second. I wish Fender had included a tone control for passive mode like my Marcus Miller P7 five string. I also changed the strings to flatwounds.

I treated myself to a new Fender Jazz 75th Annaversary bass in silver/gold with matching headstock ,60's p-up's...brilliant bass...an Ibanez SR600E with Nordstrand p-up's...ash body, 5 piece Bubinga & Walnut neck, active & passive with a tone knob in passive mode or 3 band active eq with a pre set 3 position mid range toggle switch & active/ passive toggle...i finally found the active/passive bass i meant in your remarks about the Mark pre-amp,DI box.....not all is as it seems at times...you can buy dual active & passive bass's with a tone knob when in passive mode for years hence why i asked if the Mark Bass pre-amp could take active or passive bass's, not all do DI's take both active or passive bass's ,alright in a studio but if playing live i want to use passive bass's so use pro buffered pedal input & 75ohm output DI box....& i bought a new 15" 4ohm 300w Eden cab to go with my 250w 12" Ashdown Bass Cab...not the worst Christmas....nearly forgot got a new EBS Magni 500 15" bass combo..amazing tones & so loud...

    • @halcyo

Man, you must not pay much attention to bass trends. Multi-scale or fan fret necks have been pretty trendy the last couple years. The low strings get clearer bass like a long scale instrument, and the high strings get less zingy and clacky, and get slightly mellowed like on a short scale instrument. Added benefit is that your wrist gets a more comfortable angle of play for the lower frets on the fretboard. It's pretty smart design if done well!

I bought a Sterling by Music Man Short Scale Stingray in 2021 and I'm loving it apart from the noticeable neck dive, which I'm hoping to mitigate with Ultra Lite tuners. Worth the effort and cost, because the bass itself is awesome! Of these on the video, I'm disappointed by the comparative gutlessness of the Dingwall, the Fender and the Sire. I would definitely entertain the idea of an Ibanez headless - great tone and practical porta/playability.

I like all of the bass you displayed. But I have stepped into the world of analog synth bass but played with a midi bass guitar. Peavey Midi bass, peavey Cyber bass, Industrial Radio Midi bass guitar. WOW!!! 😮 you should try it!

A lacquered neck on a fretless bass gives it a little rattle I think. Looks cool though. I have the Fender fretless jazz bass made in Mexico.

All sound great. Dingwalls really have that wow factor, but if I got a Dingwall it would have to be a 5 string, because their low B is just the best.
